Recycling Solutions Australia has been a HELP client for the past three years. Our Supply Chain Services team works with RSA to source and process materials such as cardboard, paper, and plastics so that they can be repurposed and recycled. Partnering with RSA not only provides meaningful job opportunities for our team members with disability, but it also aligns with our shared vision for a cleaner, greener world.

We recently caught up with RSA Director Brett Campbell to talk shop and find out more about his longstanding relationship with HELP.

Could you tell us a bit about Recycling Solutions Australia and the work that you do?
Recycling Solutions Australia (RSA) is a multifaceted organisation that specialises in recycling. We help divert over 20,000 tonnes of fibre and plastics away from landfill each year. In fact, one of our slogans is “When you say waste, we say recycle”.  RSA is always developing new concepts to improve waste management, and encourage best practices in the recycling sector. We work with organisations across Australia and the world, to reduce and repurpose waste for better environmental and economic outcomes.

How long have you been working with HELP?
RSA have been working with Help Enterprises for a number of years now and with each year we have built a stronger partnership.

How does RSA work with HELP?
Our organisations work together primarily through HELP's recycling and document destruction facility in Gympie. HELP provides RSA support through the recovery of materials like cardboard, paper, and plastic.

What made you choose HELP?
Why would you not choose Help Enterprises as a partner? The organisation becomes like family and the HELP team becomes a part of your crew. They ensure all goals are accomplished within the desired time frame and empower supported employees to take ownership of their roles through training and support. Once you experience the sites in person you are straight away reassured that your business is in safe hands.

What do you think are the benefits of working with a social enterprise like HELP?
Being in partnership with an organisation like HELP is rewarding in itself. Seeing the comradery amongst the team and the smiles on everyone's faces is an amazing experience. Being a part of this reflects where we want to be as a business. The added benefit of working with a social enterprise is that it gives you the flexibility to grow as you need. We all know starting a business or taking it to that next level is never easy; there are many different outlays and obligations. HELP works within your budget and goals and gives you the freedom to move with the times, through the peaks and the troughs. What this ultimately means is that your costs do not blow out, whilst also having a sense of satisfaction that you are supporting people with disability to live on their own terms.

Why do you think it’s important for businesses to work with social enterprises?
It is an indescribable feeling when you see the operations of a social enterprise in action. Engaging with supported employees and seeing what they accomplish, their reaction to being involved in new projects, and the social interaction it creates makes it even more worthwhile. On the other hand, the amount you save in outgoings (wages, property/space, growth allowances etc) just adds to the reward. Working with an organisation like HELP is something I encourage all businesses to look at when starting off, expanding, or even wanting to reduce existing costs.
